GET YOUR SUMMER HAIR READY!

There are three types of hair people when it comes to length, those who were born half mermaid; those whose hair simply doesn't like growing any further south of the collarbone; those whose hair is either really fine (and basically becomes a single wipsy strand) or really dry and thick so it gets matted like an old dog’s tail. If you fall into the latter two categories, you definitely have options but they do involve time and investment. A quick way to overcome these challenges is to consider hair extensions.

Here at The Hive we offer Beauty Works’ extensions and have a qualified technician, Sophie. Sophie has highlighted the key things you need to know about Beauty Works’ extensions so you are armed with the facts before making your decision.

This is an educational piece for our readers, so you can understand the process and considerations for this treatment.

Who can have them?

Hair extensions can be worn by anyone wanting to achieve either more length, volume or both.

It’s also a great option if you want to add colour without colouring the hair.

So long as you have healthy hair and it is at least 5 inches long (should sit on the nape of the neck or below), there is a method suitable for you.

What can I expect in terms of length and fullness?

We can add extensions to both long and short hair (see above notes on min length). However if you’re working a short graduated bob, you're definitely not going to walk out with 24" mermaid hair!

Generally we would propose pieces which are twice the length of your natural hair. For example, if you have collarbone length hair I would suggest a 16" extension.

During your consultation we will determine how much hair you will need and colour match, using Beauty Works’ colour ring.

What makes this process / product different?

We do all methods of hair extensions and tailor the approach based upon our findings at consultation stage. However, the general approach involves sectioning the hair rows and working in a brick wall method. This allows the placement to look and fall naturally.

What can I expect on the day?

You can expect to spend between 2-4 hours in the salon.

First we will ensure that you, the client, are happy with the hair ordered and that your hair is still in suitable condition.

Your hair will hen be fitted, blended, trimmed and styled.

You will then be given your free aftercare kit. This will allow you to maintain your new hair for the next 8-10 weeks ensuring you achieve the optimum results from your hair extensions.

What is the maintenance like?

At the fitting we will provide you with a Beauty Works’ brush and would recommend regular and thorough brushing ensuring you are lifting up sections and brushing each one from root to tip.

We would also recommend using sulphate free/low sulphate Beauty Works’ shampoo and conditioner.

Styling wise, you can do everything you would do with your natural hair as long as you're using heat protectant sprays and serums. We suggest Beauty Works’ 10-1 miracle spray and the Beauty Works’ hair oil.

What should I consider beforehand?

Make sure you can afford the maintenance! You MUST come in for your maintenance every 6-10 weeks (depending on which method you have). This is fundamental to ensuring the health of your natural hair and is a longer term financial commitment.

There will be a increase in time for washing and drying.

You might need to change how you wear your hair up for a few weeks while your extensions are settling.

You’ll perhaps need to set aside more time for styling and using new correct products (but worth it as they’ll look awesome!)

If you would like to learn more about Beauty Works’ extensions, why not book in a consultation to discuss your hair and how the process would work for you.
